Prototype Work
Here is the one of the prototypes of the Aleutian paddle I’ve decided to build.
This paddle is:
91″ (231 cm) long.
25″ (63.5 cm) loom width – shoulder to shoulder.
3-1/4″ (8.3 cm) wide blade.
The loom cross section is a modified egg shape similar to what I found on other Aleut paddles. The cross section dimensions are: 1.5″ (3.8 cm) x 1.3″ (3.3 cm).
I expect to have a carbon version ready in a couple weeks for trials. Since this paddle will be built the same way I build all of my other paddles, the tooling and fixtures will be available to build subsequent copies. So if this paddle is something you’d like to add to your quiver of paddles – just let me know.

Please note that this pink styrofoam is NOT what goes into the cores of my paddles. I only use the pink stuff for a look-see when I’m trying out new designs.
